Since 2004, the Department of Fisheries has been developing fish products which has previously been initiated through research activities and student internships at the Fish Processing Technology Laboratory. The fish products chosen are healthy fish gel-based products, without flavoring and preservatives. The fish gel product selection was motivated by the low fish consumption in DIY. The Department of Fisheries hopes to participate in campaigning for the Love to Eat Fish Movement, educating the public that the fish gel products produced are products that are competitive, and explaining the advantages of ready-to-eat frozen food products, especially in terms of cost and time efficiency. This product does not require special machines, does not require special skills in serving, reduces undue excess food, and eliminates the cost of failing to manufacture a homemade product.
Formulation results and products are continuously being developed and tested by the Fish Processing Technology Laboratory Product Development team. Innovative fish gel product variants and the use of local ingredients as fillers continue to be developed. Fish gel product development, in the field of food, is very interesting and includes culinology.
At the peak of the 61st anniversary of the Faculty of Agriculture (2007), Delifi Z® was launched as one of the products from the Faculty of Agriculture. In 2008, Delifi Z® was selected to get help from the Disperindagkop (Ministry of industry and small enterprise) regarding the manufacture of a procedure manual for implementing Hazard Analysis Critical Control Points (HACCP) in frozen fish gel products. At this time, delifiZ® products have received PIRT and Halal certificates. Although the marketing of delifi Z® is still limited, it is hoped that in the future this product can become more widely known and can take part in meeting the needs of the hotel, restaurant, catering and bakery industries in the Yogyakarta and surrounding areas. Currently delifiZ products can be obtained at the Agro Plaza, Faculty of Animal Science UGM. DelifiZ® products are also a supplier of some processed products at the Entrepreneurship Development Unit “Business Incubator (IMB)” of the UGM Department of Fisheries.
