Since 2004, the Department of Fisheries has developed fish food products, previously pioneered through research activities and student internships at the Fish Processing Technology Laboratory. The selected fish product is a healthy fish gel based product, without flavorings and preservatives. The choice of fish gel products is motivated by the low fish consumption in Yogyakarta. The Department of Fisheries hopes to play a role in campaigning for the Love to Eat Fish Movement, educating the public that the fish gel products produced are competitive products, and explaining the advantages of frozen ready-to-eat food products, especially in terms of cost and time efficiency. This product does not require special machinery, does not require special skills in preparation, reduces unnecessary food surpluses, and eliminates the cost of failure in making homemade products.

Formulations and products are continuously developed and tested by the Product Development team of the Fish Processing Technology Laboratory. Innovations in fish gel product variants and the use of local ingredients as fillers are constantly being explored. Fish gel product development in the food industry is a highly interesting field and falls under the purview of culinary science.

At the peak of the 61st anniversary Faculty of Agriculture (2007), the launch of delifi Z® was carried out as one of the products of the Faculty of Agriculture.

In 2008, delifiZ® was selected to receive assistance from the Department of Industry and Trade (Disperindagkop) regarding the creation of a procedure manual for the application of Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point (HACCP) in frozen fish gel products. Currently, delifiZ® products have received PIRT and Halal certification. Although the marketing of delifi Z® is still limited, it is hoped that in the future this product will become more widely known and can take part in meeting the needs of the hotel, restaurant, catering, and bakery industries in the Yogyakarta area and its surroundings. Currently, delifiZ products can be obtained at Plaza Agro, Faculty of Animal Husbandry, UGM. delifiZ® products also supply some processed products at the Entrepreneurship Development Unit “Inkubator Mina Bisnis (IMB)” Department of Fisheries UGM.
