Hi, my name is Dona and I’m currently in my last year here as a fisheries student at Gadjah Mada University. I was given the opportunity to go to Malaysia through the AIMS programme. I spent 5 months at Univesity Malaysia Terengganu as an exchange student, participating in ‘foreign’ campus life and ‘foreign’ daily life. Even just in Malaysia I really had some cultures shock, although we called Indonesia and Malyasia are ‘serumpun’ I still need time to adapt to the culture differences there. Terengganu is one of the Muslim state in Malaysia, so we start the week there in Sunday unlike in Indonesia here the first day of the week is Monday. At first I bewildered when my class sched is in Sunday at 7 a.m, thought it was a mistake but it turns out to be true.
I’ll start my experiences with Integra, I join two of the clubs activities which is hiking and a reviving camp. Both activities held in November 2019 but I forgot the exact dates. The first event which is hiking, I had the opportunity to climb the most favs hill in Terengganu ‘Keluang Hills’, located in Besut, Terengganu with approx. height 113 m its pretty high. Because of the tracks quite hard I slipped lot of times but the views at the peak is beautiful so its worth the energy. The more exciting things is I got so many new friends to hangout with! 😀 *Pic 1: me (in glasses) and Emi (my friends from UGM) pose with the views at the peak*
Second event a reviving camp or I think can call it a mini survival camp because we literally live in the middle of jungle and sleep with a tent. It’s so exciting! When all of our body full of leech (literally a leech but in mini size) locals called it pacet. Not only surviving we had so many games like a water race, a dance battle also a drama or skit battle lol it’s so fun. I remember my team got an awards but I can’t remember the name hehe pardon.
Last but not least the student event with Ficos or the fisheries sciences student, the event is like more educational because it is an educational trip to Prince Songhkla University Thailand. Yes I got another great opportunity to know how others country higher education related actitvies going. For this trip not much to do except for a fun study ehehe what do you expect from the educational study right. But it’s still a really great trip. This educational trips is pure the students who arranged it, it’s crazy right students can arranged a trip with this scale. All of the student’s club activities are so fun and exciting, what the most important things is I got so many friends I can hangout with! 😀 There’s a many more story but I’m afraid it’ll be too long so if youre curious just contact me.
