National Student Scientific Writing Competition (NARESCOM) was held by Semarang State University Research Unit on November 1, 2020 with theme “The Role of Millennial Generation in Optimizing Local Resources to Increase Productivity in the New Normal Era”. The competition consists of 2 stages, starting with full paper selection and question and answer presentation with the jury. The presentation stage was attended by 10 finalists from the Yogyakarta Syuhada Mosque Islamic College, Jakarta Stiami Institute, Muria Kudus University, Padjajaran University, Jambi University, Semarang University, Diponegoro University, Semarang State University, and Gadjah Mada Universiats.
A team from Gadjah Mada University consisting of Ragil Puspita Megaranu (Fish Product Technology 2017), Aliya Nadira Irsyad (Biology 2017), and Rafelinta Daradwinta (Biology 2017) under the guidance of UGM Fisheries Lecturer Indun Dewi Puspita, SP, M.Sc., Ph .D provides potential innovations for Organic-Bag products: Optimizing Corn Weevil Waste and Fishery Production By-Products as a Substitute for Plastic Bags in Indonesia. The innovation concept concerns the use of corncob waste containing cellulose and gelatin obtained from fishery waste as an optimization of available waste in abundance and has not been utilized into value-added products in the form of waterproof environmentally friendly bags as an alternative solution to environmental problems caused by high the use of plastic bags by Indonesians. The UGM team won first place in this competition, the second winner was won by a team from Diponegoro University, and the third winner was won by a team from Semarang State University.
